La Mom’s been Sliimed

Okay, it’s a lot less gross than it sounds – I’ve been seduced by Sliimy, the latest Frenchy Internet sensation.

20-year old Sliimy (pronounced Sleem-mee) hails from Saint-Etienne, where he won a local singing competition and a little recording contract. But it was his cover of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and homemade video posted on YouTube that sent shock waves far beyond France. Petit Sliimy got picked up by Warner Music and his album comes out in spring 2009.

With his funky, androgynous Prince-meets-Pee Wee Herman look and smoky R&B voice, Sliimy’s already generated an amazing buzz in France.

Check out the video for his first single, Wake Up:

La Mom wants to know – does Sliimy have what it takes to become an international pop star?

I love Sliimy!
I think he's a skinny, androgynous Lily Allen.

I agree with Leonor, he reminds me of Mika as well. Very catchy tune! I think he's adorable!

He is a dead ringer for a current Pee Wee Herman. You need to add him to your "Free Pass Five" - must read

If I know your humor @ all, you'll give it a giggle!

Super clever video! Fun,light, puts a spring in my step. I just hope the label doesn't manipulate him. So many cookie cutter recording artists nowadays.

Not my cup of tea, but every so often, tunes like this do get into my head. Definitely could see him making it.
